(B3) Rayner, P. Alan. English Silver Coinage since 1649. Fifth (Revised) Edition. 1992. Seaby, London. 254 pages, photos in text. Hardcover with dust jacket. The standard reference for milled coinage and essential for any collector of the series. (In a way, this is the "cherry picker's guide" to English milled coins; there are valuable minor varieties to be found in dealer stocks or even in your own collection.) Out-of-print. New. $50
(B4) Withers, Paul and Bente. The Galata Guide to the Pennies of Edward I and II. Galata. 2006. A4 format with glossy card covers. 62 pages, extensive photos and drawings in text.  Edward I and II pennies can be challenging. I have three different references by North and Wren's work and they are all helpful. But this publication is the answer and has become the reference I depend on when attributing coins from this huge series. (I must admit that I have not gone through my inventory of already-attributed Edward I and II pennies to see if I got them right but I probably will on some long winter's night.) Anyhow, the book is outstanding and is a bargain. $45
(B5) Woodhead, P. The Herbert Schneider Collection, English Gold Coins, 1603-20th Century. Spink. London. 2002. Volume 57 of the Sylloge of Coins of the British Isles. Hardcover with dust jacket. 305 pages. 685 coins illustrated and fully described; extensive and important introductory and background information. This is an essential volume for all collectors interested in English gold, particularly the Stuart hammered series and the milled series. We bought a substantial number of copies when they were printed and have five left. We originally sold the volume for $110. Closeout price. $85
(B6) Woolf, N. The Sovereign Remedy. Touch-Pieces and the King's Evil. Published in 1990 by The British Association of Numismatic Societies at £15. Soft cover. 64 pages, 8 plates. Woolf first published the definitive history and classification of touch pieces in the British Numismatic Journal. This publication makes that work available to everyone. The sovereign's touch is a fascinating part of English history and it had an influence on its coinage, particularly the gold angels of Charles I when the angels were apparently minted only for this purpose. After Charles, touch pieces were specially made and Woolf's book provides the classification and catalog. (8 available) $22
